Yunus (and his father)
Born: ca.2000 (and ca.1966)
Attempted murder: 21 February 2021
Residence: Kempten / Allgäu
Origin: perpetrator: Kosovo
Children: probably none
Perpetrators: 3 men from the family of his girlfriend
The case begins with a 20-year-old woman from Kosovo who apparently has a boyfriend who is not from Kosovo, perhaps a Turk. The young woman's father threatens to force her to marry in Kosovo. Fearing this, the young woman stays with her boyfriend's family.

All this is reason enough for the father (55 years old), her brother and her brother-in-law to swear blood vengeance. They meet the young woman's friend and his father and go after them with a knife and truncheons. The victims, badly injured, manage to get to safety. The perpetrators flee, the main perpetrator is later arrested in his apartment, another perpetrator on the same day. The 3rd perpetrator turns himself in the next day.

The father of the young woman states that he had wanted to restore family honor.

In October 2021, the trial of the 3 Kosovars begins at the district court in Kempten. The charge is attempted murder, and in the case of the third perpetrator, attempted infliction of grievous bodily harm and coercion.

What is an honour killing?

An honour killing is a murder in the name of honour. If a brother murders his sister to restore family honour, it is an honour killing. According to activists, the most common reasons for honour killings are as the victim:

Questions about honour killings

  • refuses to cooperate in an arranged marriage.

  • wants to end the relationship.

  • was the victim of rape or sexual assault.

  • was accused of having a sexual relationship outside of marriage.

Human rights activists believe that 100,000 honour killings are carried out every year, most of which are not reported to the authorities and some are even deliberately covered up by the authorities themselves, for example because the perpetrators are good friends with local policemen, officials or politicians. Violence against girls and women remains a serious problem in Pakistan, India, Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Iran, Serbia and Turkey.
