Honour killing story

Soopika Paramanathan
born: 1995
stabbed: 10,/11. February 2017
Place of residence: Ahaus / NRW
Origin: Victim: Sri Lanka; Perpetrator: Nigeria
Children: probably none
Perpetrator: Anthony I. (at act 27 y.)
Soopika is a refugee assistant at Caritas in Ahaus. Her family comes from Sri Lanka. She studies German and English as a teacher. Anthony escaped from Nigeria in 2012, lives in Italy for 3 years and comes to Germany in 2015. He lives in a refugee home in Ahaus. In August 2016 he had an affair with Soopika, which she ended. Thereupon he begins to stalk her.

In the night of February 11, 2017, he kills the 5-year younger Soopika in Ahaus on open street with 22 stitches.

He stabbed her in the head and torso. He wants to carry the bleeding woman away in a suitcase he brought with him. Residents call the police. Soopika dies in hospital. The perpetrator escapes at first.

The public prosecutor's office in Münster applies for an arrest warrant for manslaughter. A few days later, he is arrested at the train station in Basel and extradited to Münster. His application for asylum is rejected. He had also probably applied for asylum again in Basel.

For Soopika there is a Hindu funeral service in the cemetery, later an ecumenical memorial service. In August 2017 the murder trial in front of the district court Münster begins. In October, the offender is sentenced to 13 years imprisonment for manslaughter.
