Honour killing story: Ahmed - Investigate Honor Killing

Zeki's daughter was married but divorced. Her father suspects that she is having an affair with his cousin Ahmed. He is called a family man, it is unclear how many children he has.

So incites Zeki to the murder of his daughter's ex-husband - his former son-in-law.

On February 26, 2016, the two of them will be lurking in the evening in the centre of Karlsruhe towards Ahmed. When he unlocks his car, the two perpetrators push him into the car. The father stabbed Ahmed twice in the chest. Nevertheless, the wounded Ahmed can save himself from the car. Then the son-in-law shoots him in the head. The perpetrators flee on foot and throw away the knife. The police find the murder weapon.

Ahmed dies a few hours later at the hospital. The son-in-law leaves for Turkey. Traces at the crime scene lead to the arrest of Zeki 10 days after the crime.

The trial against Zeki starts in October 2016 at the Karlsruhe District Court under strict security measures. In November, Zeki was sentenced to life imprisonment. The second perpetrator has not yet been found. The real name of the victim is not known.

What is an honour killing?

An honour killing is a murder in the name of honour. If a brother murders his sister to restore family honour, it is an honour killing. According to activists, the most common reasons for honour killings are as the victim:

refuses to cooperate in an arranged marriage.
wants to end the relationship.
was the victim of rape or sexual assault.
was accused of having a sexual relationship outside of marriage.

Human rights activists believe that 100,000 honour killings are carried out every year, most of which are not reported to the authorities and some are even deliberately covered up by the authorities themselves, for example because the perpetrators are good friends with local policemen, officials or politicians. Violence against girls and women remains a serious problem in Pakistan, India, Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Iran, Serbia and Turkey.
