Nicole has 2 sons. Her relationship with her Indian friend Sarbjit is violent. Several times the neighbours of the family come to her aid. At one point Sarbjit moves to Rees. At another place his name is indicated by Ajay. He has been in Germany since 2012 and works temporarily as a kitchen helper in Dortmund.

In the early hours of July 2, 2016, Sarbjit enters his ex-girlfriend's house, enters the bedroom and stabs Nicole and her new boyfriend (29 years old). Both are seriously injured and are taken to the hospital. Nicole dies. Her boyfriend survives,

The offender is arrested at the scene of the crime and remanded in custody. The older son remained unharmed during the crime, the youngest son stayed overnight with acquaintances and learned about the crime only 2 days later.

The trial before the Kleve court will begin in December 2016. A witness reports an earlier event in the stairwell in which Sarbjit strangled the youngest son of the defendant with both hands. The then 16-year-old had assisted his mother when Sarbjit had kicked her against a broken foot in anger. A neighbour had intervened and ended the suffocation.

In February 2017, the offender is sentenced to 8 years and 3 months imprisonment for manslaughter.
