Honour killing story

Shakir B.
Born: 1968
shot: 11 March 2021
Residence: Hamburg
Origin: unclear
Children: 1 daughter, 1 son
Perpetrator: Mustafa D. (age 23 at the time of the crime)
Mustafa has been stalking Shakir's 17-year-old daughter for a year, but she wants nothing to do with him. Apparently she is supported by her mother Shakir. The family gets a restraining order.

On March 11, 2021, Mustafa ambushes the mother in the stairwell in Hamburg-Harburg when she comes home with her 13-year-old son. He shoots at her 3 times.

Shakir is seriously injured in the hospital, but survives. The name sounds like that of a man, but in this case it is probably that of a woman. Mustafa is arrested shortly thereafter. He hands over the murder weapon to the police. A preliminary investigation is already underway against him for assault.

Maybe Shakir is from Afghanistan and Mustafa from Turkey. But it is unclear.

What is an honour killing?

An honour killing is a murder in the name of honour. If a brother murders his sister to restore family honour, it is an honour killing. According to activists, the most common reasons for honour killings are as the victim:

Questions about honour killings

  • refuses to cooperate in an arranged marriage.

  • wants to end the relationship.

  • was the victim of rape or sexual assault.

  • was accused of having a sexual relationship outside of marriage.

Human rights activists believe that 100,000 honour killings are carried out every year, most of which are not reported to the authorities and some are even deliberately covered up by the authorities themselves, for example because the perpetrators are good friends with local policemen, officials or politicians. Violence against girls and women remains a serious problem in Pakistan, India, Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Iran, Serbia and Turkey.
