Honour killing story
born: 1986
stabbed to death: 7 January 2016
Residence: Hanau
Origin: Syria
Children: 1 son (at act 6 y.), she was pregnant
Perpetrators: her brothers Mostafa and Mohammad (21 and 26 y.)
In the summer of 2015 Ramia comes as a refugee from Syria and lives with her husband Ayman (31 y.) and a 6-year-old son in Hanau. She is pregnant again. The fatherhood is not clear.
One of Ramia's brothers lives nearby, the other in a refugee shelter. They call at their sister's house on 7 January 2016. The man lets them in. The brothers stab their sister 12 times. Neighbours call the police
Ramia is still found alive in the stairwell, but dies later. The brothers are on the run.
The police initially searched Mostafa's apartment and the refugee shelter without success. Finally, the two men were arrested the day after the crime at a roadblock in a taxi in Trier.
The younger brother has been remanded in custody. The older brother is accused of not providing help. The trial starts in September at the regional court of Hanau. Mostafa confesses to the crime and refers to the family honour.
A neighbour reports that the couple has already knocked on her door, beaten up and bleeding. The neighbour, however, had pushed the two back into the stairwell and had refused to help. This can be interpreted as meaning that the Turkish housewife thought that the murder was a family affair, in which she did not want to interfere. The court reacted in amazement.
After the crime, the court learns, the brothers drank coffee with a fellow countryman. The latter arranged for a Syrian taxi driver to take the two to Trier, where they would get new clothes and money for an escape to Syria. None of the confidants informed the police.
In September 2016 Mostafa is sentenced to 12 years imprisonment for manslaughter. Mohammad gets a probationary period of 9 months.
