In 1990 Updesh comes from India to Cologne and marries a pharmacist. After 4 years the marriage is childless divorced. At first he worked as a concierge in a hotel, later he is unemployed.

Updesh marries a second time, possibly his family will arrange for a woman from the Indian homeland. The two absolutely want children and probably consult several doctors without success. After 12 years of marriage, his second wife, Sonia, also wants a divorce.

Updesh can't accept this and he stabs Sonia with a kitchen knife 17 times on March 3, 2015. The victim bled to death. Then he warns the police. Cops find the body and the murder weapon in the communal apartment.

Later, the Public Prosecutor's Office requests an arrest warrant for murder. It is said that one of the reasons for the divorce was childlessness. Updesh says that in his culture it is "the worst when a woman leaves her husband."

In September 2015, the trial before the District Court of Cologne will begin. Updesh admits the deed, but points to gaps in his memory. Three weeks later he suffers a stroke. The trial has been discontinued and will probably not be resumed.
