Honour killing story

Yeter P.
born: 1982
burned and stabbed: 5 December 2016
Residence: Berlin
Origin: Turkey / Kurds
Children: 5
Perpetrator: her husband Mehmet P. (43 years)
Mehmet came to Germany in the early 1990s. He works in the construction industry. In 1999 his parents married him with his 10 year younger niece, probably an imported bride. The two have 5 children. Mehmet has the German and Turkish nationality.

On December 5, 2016, Mehmet pours hot water on his wife in their shared apartment in Berlin-Gesundbrunnen and stabs her 17 times. He informs the neighbors and flees. Yeter comes to the hospital. She is brain dead, 10 days later the machines are switched off. The day before Mehmet had surrendered to the police.

In August 2017 the trial will start before the Court of Berlin. The motive mentioned is that Yeter wanted to leave the house alone, which Mehmet - after more than 25 years in Germany - still prohibits her from doing. She also turned down a complete veil for her daughter. Years of psychological and physical abuse would have determined the marriage. Mehmet was fundamentalist and read a lot in the Koran. It is said that he appeared with two of the most expensive lawyers in Berlin. He also has the process translated by an interpreter.

Mehmet has no criminal record, but he has been charged with assaulting his wife. Also the abuse of the children would have been known to the Youth Care Office.

After the murder, the 5 children live with the suspect's brother in Turkey, i.e. in the murderer's family. It is clear that they have been taken away from their school and their familiar surroundings.

In March 2018, the offender is sentenced to 9 years imprisonment for manslaughter. He considered his wife his property. A long period of accumulated tension, according to the verdict, erupted.
