At the end of 2015, Zanaar will arrive in Germany as a refugee from Syria via Turkey, Bulgaria and France. He takes his family with him and lives together with his wife Fadia (31 years) and 3 children in a refugee shelter

The family has only been in Germany for a few weeks, when domestic violence takes place at the beginning of January 2016. Zanaar hit his wife in the face with a saucepan. He has to leave the apartment for 10 days, but after a few days he moves back in.

On February 1, 2016, Zanaar throws the 3 children out of the window on the 1st floor. The bodies hit concrete. The 7-year-old daughter and the 5-year-old son are seriously injured, the 1-year-old daughter is slightly injured because she falls on her brother. The two older children came to the clinic by helicopter and survived. The father first speaks of an accident.

In September 2016 the trial starts in the Bonn court for dangerous physical damage to the woman and attempted murder of the children. The crime has just come to light. The motive mentioned in the indictment is that the woman was not willing to submit to him and accept the traditional Syrian role system. He saw this as an attack on his honour.

Fadia says that her family married her in 2007 to a man she didn't know at the time. Since then, she has been suffering from his anger outbursts.

The marriage lasted 9 years in total. For Zanaar this was the second marriage,

In November 2016 Zanaar is sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for triple attempted murder and serious ill-treatment.
