Perpetrators: her ex-boyfriend (30 years old) and his two brothers (38 and 43 years old). The middle brother Mehmet is suspected of being the shooter.
In August 2005 Katja breaks up with her boyfriend, with whom she had lived for five years. The abandoned man then harasses her for months and threatens to kill her. The couple have a son together and Katja has another child from a previous relationship.
In December 2005, Katja, her new boyfriend Marcus (age 23) and a cousin (age 19) celebrate New Year's Eve. During the celebration they go out into the street together. The perpetrator comes out of the semi-darkness, scolds Katja and shoots at close range into the heads of the three. Katja and her boyfriend die, the nephew escapes with serious head injuries. He still manages to call the police, but is later unable to identify the perpetrator.
The three brothers Orhan, Necip and Mehmet Sarischan are arrested in a snack bar near the crime scene. They have alibis and are released. It is not until early April that the middle brother is arrested again. Gunpowder residue is supposed to prove his guilt. He refuses to testify. However, it is said that several crimes have already been committed between the families.
On November 10, 2006, the alleged perpetrator is acquitted by the Hagen jury court for lack of evidence. The judge emphasizes that there is insufficient certainty, but speaks of a gray area. The lawyer for the victim's parents, who are also prosecutors in the case, announces that she will appeal.
The ex-boyfriend, who remains a suspect, then sought custody of their then two-year-old son. In January 2008, the Federal Constitutional Court in Karlsruhe finally rejected his request: the child had indirectly witnessed the murder at the time and was traumatized by it. The father lacked any sense and understanding of this traumatization, so he certainly could not provide the child with the necessary empathic education. The child continues to live in a home.
There is a new version of the crime in January 2008: the three brothers allegedly blackmailed the German-Turkish operator of a brothel. The latter had contacts with the Russian mafia and allegedly killed on the orders of the brothers there.
