Honour killing story: Ahmet (2010) - Investigate Honor Killing

Ahmed has a relationship with 18-year-old Ayse, but does not want to marry her. Her brother Haya does not want to accept this. During an amateur football tournament at the Frankenhalle in Stockstadt, he sneaks up on Ahmed, who is sitting in the hall, from behind and stabs him without warning. The victim is able to fend off the third stab. Haya draws a gun and tries to flee, but is overpowered. Ahmed survives badly injured and undergoes emergency surgery.

In front of the district court in Aschaffenburg, Haya confesses to the crime, but wants to claim a reduction in the sentence due to affection loss. He later states that he wanted to restore the honor of his family. In October 2011, he is sentenced to 10 years in prison for attempted murder. What is an honour killing?

An honour killing is a murder in the name of honour. If a brother murders his sister to restore family honour, it is an honour killing. According to activists, the most common reasons for honour killings are as the victim:

refuses to cooperate in an arranged marriage.
wants to end the relationship.
was the victim of rape or sexual assault.
was accused of having a sexual relationship outside of marriage.

Human rights activists believe that 100,000 honour killings are carried out every year, most of which are not reported to the authorities and some are even deliberately covered up by the authorities themselves, for example because the perpetrators are good friends with local policemen, officials or politicians. Violence against girls and women remains a serious problem in Pakistan, India, Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Iran, Serbia and Turkey.
